Description

Sirodhara and Sirovasthi are two popular Ayurvedic therapies aimed at promoting mental relaxation, relieving stress, and addressing various neurological conditions. While both therapies involve the application of herbal oils to the head, they have different techniques and purposes.

  1. Sirodhara: In Sirodhara, a continuous stream of warm herbal oil is poured onto the forehead, specifically targeting the area between the eyebrows, which corresponds to the “third eye” in spiritual traditions. The oil is poured in a rhythmic motion for a specific duration, usually 30 to 60 minutes. This therapy is deeply relaxing and helps calm the mind, improve mental clarity, and alleviate stress and anxiety. It is often used to treat conditions such as insomnia, headaches, migraines, and neurological disorders.
  2. Sirovasthi: Sirovasthi involves creating a reservoir or cap on the head using a dough made from black gram flour or wheat flour. Warm herbal oil is then poured into this cap and allowed to remain for a specific period, typically 20 to 45 minutes. The oil penetrates deeply into the scalp and nourishes the hair roots, while also exerting a therapeutic effect on the brain and nervous system. Sirovasthi is commonly used to treat conditions such as chronic headaches, hair loss, facial paralysis, and neurological disorders.

Both Sirodhara and Sirovasthi are considered rejuvenating therapies in Ayurveda and are often incorporated into wellness routines to promote overall health and well-being. However, it’s essential to consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner to determine the most suitable therapy based on individual health needs and concerns.
